# Kenmore dryers

### Why the vent comes first on this site

Because it is honestly the answer more often than any component is, and because it is the one thing a household can check for free before paying anybody. It is also the reason elements and cut-offs fail early: a dryer working against a blocked duct overheats, and the protection that saves it is a part that then needs replacing. Replacing it without clearing the duct buys you a few months.

### Why a dryer ages faster in this county than the machine deserves

Long horizontal runs in single-story houses, humid intake air, and lint that packs down rather than blowing through. All three lengthen cycles and shorten the life of the heat circuit. Vent cleaning appears on this site as its own job rather than as an add-on for exactly that reason.

### Three builders, three sets of controls

110 is Whirlpool, 796 is LG, and 417 turns up on Frigidaire-built dryers and laundry centers. The drum, the belt and the blower are broadly similar work across all three. The control board, the moisture sensing and the codes on the display are not, and our code pages keep them apart by builder.

### Gas or electric changes the visit

A gas dryer brings an igniter, a gas valve and a flame sensor into the picture and takes the heating element out of it. Telling us which you have on the phone means the right parts are on the van.

Why the vent comes first on this site

Because it is honestly the answer more often than any component is, and because it is the one thing a household can check for free before paying anybody. It is also the reason elements and cut-offs fail early: a dryer working against a blocked duct overheats, and the protection that saves it is a part that then needs replacing. Replacing it without clearing the duct buys you a few months.

Why a dryer ages faster in this county than the machine deserves

Long horizontal runs in single-story houses, humid intake air, and lint that packs down rather than blowing through. All three lengthen cycles and shorten the life of the heat circuit. Vent cleaning appears on this site as its own job rather than as an add-on for exactly that reason.

Three builders, three sets of controls

110 is Whirlpool, 796 is LG, and 417 turns up on Frigidaire-built dryers and laundry centers. The drum, the belt and the blower are broadly similar work across all three. The control board, the moisture sensing and the codes on the display are not, and our code pages keep them apart by builder.

Gas or electric changes the visit

A gas dryer brings an igniter, a gas valve and a flame sensor into the picture and takes the heating element out of it. Telling us which you have on the phone means the right parts are on the van.

### A full cycle ends and the load is still wet.

Vent first, every time. A restricted duct traps the moist air the dryer is trying to expel, so the machine runs a full cycle and the load comes out warm and wet. The quick test is at the outside hood: with the dryer running you should feel real airflow. If you do not, the repair is a vent cleaning and not a part. Where the vent is genuinely clear, the next suspects are the heating element or the igniter, then the moisture sensor.

### There is no heat at all.

On an electric dryer this is usually the element or a thermal cut-off, and a cut-off that has opened is very often the vent's doing rather than a coincidence — so we check both or the second one goes the same way. On a gas dryer it is more commonly the igniter or the flame sensor. Which one you have changes the part and the figure, so tell us gas or electric when you call.

### Does the builder matter as much as it does on the washer?

Less, but it still matters. The mechanics of drying are similar across the three builders; the controls, the sensors and the published codes are not. An LG-built 796 will name a problem on the display in LG's own vocabulary. A Whirlpool-built 110 may show nothing at all and simply take three cycles to dry a load.
