# Kenmore refrigerator not cooling repair

### About a Kenmore refrigerator that is not cooling

This is the call we take more often than any other, and on this badge it is really three different calls. A Whirlpool-built 106 most often ends at the defrost circuit. An LG-built 795 moves its cold with a fan and reads it with sensors, so it more often ends at one of those. A Frigidaire-built 253 tends to start at the door. All three are inexpensive parts held in stock, which is why this figure sits at the low end of the local band — and why a phone diagnosis of a sealed system on a warm refrigerator should be treated with suspicion.

On this site the job covers refrigerators and freezers wearing the Kenmore badge, across Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach. Tell us the three digits before the period on the rating plate when you book: they name the company that actually built the appliance, and on this badge that is where the diagnosis starts.

What this involves

Nothing gets named until the setting and the airflow are ruled out

The route depends on the builder, and we read it first

Sealed system last, because it is last in reality

What the cabinet is actually holding

A thermometer left inside the compartment, rather than whatever the door panel claims. Panels drift, and a cabinet sitting a couple of degrees high leads somewhere entirely different from one sitting ten degrees high.

Airflow, load and the condenser

A carton left in front of a vent, shelves loaded solid to the rear wall, or a coil wearing a season of dust and pet hair. Each of the three delivers this exact complaint from an appliance with nothing wrong with it.

The defrost circuit, under test

The heater, the terminating thermostat and the control that drives them, measured together instead of swapped one at a time. Ice that rebuilds on the evaporator after every clear is this, and from the kitchen it looks like a fridge warming up while the freezer holds.

The fan and the sensor the builder uses

On an LG-built cabinet a failed sensor is usually reported on the display; on a Whirlpool-built one it often is not. Same component, two different diagnoses.

Only then the sealed system

Refrigerant work needs a license, and this is the repair the trade reaches for soonest and should reach for last. Everything less expensive is eliminated first, and if this is genuinely where it lands we will say so in plain words.

### It is running constantly and still not cold.

That usually means the cold is being made and not moved — a fan, a blocked airway or ice where air should pass. It is very often the inexpensive answer rather than the expensive one.

### Could it be switched off on purpose?

It genuinely could. Whirlpool-built cabinets have a cooling-off setting and Frigidaire-built ones have a demonstration mode, and both produce a refrigerator that lights up and does not cool. Both are free to check and both get quoted as sealed systems by people who do not.
