Kenmore defrost system repair
A refrigerator that warms up over days while the freezer stays cold is usually a defrost story, and in this climate it is a common one: every time a tired door seal lets damp air in, the evaporator has more ice to clear and the circuit has more work than it was sized for.

How this visit actually goes
The same order every time, so nothing is opened and nothing is charged before you have seen the figure and said yes.

01
Confirm it is the defrost circuit
Ice on the evaporator with a working compressor is the signature. We look rather than infer, which means the back panel comes off.
-
02
Test the three parts as one
Heater, terminating thermostat and the control that runs them. Two of the three commonly test fine and the third is the answer, and swapping blind gets that wrong.
-
03
Check the drain
A defrost cycle that works and a drain that is blocked puts water in the crisper. It is a different repair with the same starting complaint.
-
04
Find out why it was working so hard
Almost always a door seal or a door that is not closing square. Repairing the circuit and leaving that is a repair with a return date.
-
05
Watch a cycle before we leave
A defrost circuit that has been repaired has not been proved until it has run.

French door · side-by-side · top and bottom freezer Kenmore refrigerator repair in Miami
The appliance the badge is best known for, and the one where knowing who built it changes the repair most. A Kenmore refrigerator in a South Florida kitchen is a Whirlpool, a Frigidaire or an LG underneath, and the first three digits of the model number say which. That decides the parts, the diagnostic sequence and whether there is a published code table to read at all — so it is the first thing we ask for.
- 106 is Whirlpool, 253 is Frigidaire, 795 is LG
- Ice, water and the defrost circuit are most of the call volume
- The parts catalog is the builder's, not the badge's

Upright and chest · garage and utility room Kenmore freezer repair in Miami
Standalone uprights and chest freezers, most of them Frigidaire-built or Whirlpool-built, and most of them living somewhere hot: a garage, a utility room, a covered porch. That location is half the diagnosis. A freezer asked to hold zero degrees in a garage that reaches ninety-five is working at the edge of what it was designed for, and it fails differently from one in a kitchen.
- 253 is Frigidaire-built, 106 is Whirlpool-built
- Where it lives decides how it fails here
- Manual-defrost chest units have no defrost circuit to blame

About Kenmore defrost system repair
About defrost repair in this climate
The defrost system clears the frost that every damp door opening leaves behind, and in South Florida it never gets a quiet week. The parts are inexpensive on all three of the companies that build refrigerators for this badge; the labor of reaching the evaporator, and the discipline of testing heater, thermostat and control as one circuit rather than replacing them one at a time, is what the figure covers. The door seal is checked in the same visit, because a hardened seal will defeat a brand new defrost system within a season.

Questions about Kenmore defrost system repair
I defrosted it manually and it works again.
Then the defrost system is not running and it will ice up again on the same schedule. Manual defrosting is a good diagnosis and a poor repair.
Is this worth doing on an older refrigerator?
Usually yes. This is one of the repairs where the parts are genuinely cheap on every builder behind this badge, so the arithmetic favors fixing it for longer than it does on a sealed system.
